This Wednesday, AC Milan will face off against Genoa in the Serie A. Needless to say, this game is massive for the club. If AC Milan can get three points against a tough side, it will put us firmly in contention for the Champions League places.
It is expected for Gattuso to use the 4-4-2 formation, after debuting it against another Genovese team, Sampdoria, in a 3-2 win on the weekend. After struggling in his favoured 4-3-3 system, the change was made, enabling Patrick Cutrone and Gonzalo Higuain to play alongside each other. This partnership proved to be fruitful on the weekend, with both forwards scoring against one of the strongest defences in the Serie A.
The defence still seems to cause problems for the Rossoneri, and Milan haven’t kept a clean sheet in the league for 15 games. However, going forward, the record for our two strikers is great with Cutrone averaging a goal every 41 minutes, and Higuain scoring 7 in 10 outings for Milan. Furthermore, according to WhoScored, Suso is the best performing player in the Serie A and one of the best in the world in terms of match rating. He has shown his qualities repeatedly, with 7 assists and 3 goals already.
The line-up for Milan is expected to have a few changes from the weekend, with Calabria being forced out of the starting lineup with an injury, and Kessié having a one game rest. They are expected to be replaced by experienced right-back Ignazio Abate, and underperforming Chelsea loanee Tiemoue Bakayoko. In regards to Genoa’s 11, we’re expected to see Krzysztof Piatek, the 23 year-old who has scored 14 times in 12 appearances this season in all competitions. For the shaky Milan defence, this could cause problems, but Rossoneri tifosi should be confident that we can pull of a win in the San Siro.
