AC Milan will face off against Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in a match that means a lot to both teams. Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is looking for his first trophy with the Bianconeri and this is the platform to achieve that objective. Last time Milan played the Torinese giants in a final, it was a night to forget – a crushing 4-0 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico in the Coppa Italia Final of 2018. However, the Rossoneri are a much changed side heading into this clash, with a plethora of different players expected to start in comparison to even the Serie A match earlier in the season. Brazilian wonderkid Lucas Paqueta, fan-favourite Patrick Cutrone and Davide Calabria are all expected to start ahead of Suso, Gonzalo Higuain and Ignazio Abate respectively. Much controversy currently surrounds the Milan number 9, as he is expected to complete a transfer to Chelsea FC after reportedly requesting to be sold to join his old coach Maurizio Sarri in West London.
However nothing has been agreed yet by the three parties involved, Milan, their opponents, Juventus, and Chelsea. As a result, Gattuso is expected omit the striker from the Starting XI, but he has not yet decided on a concrete lineup.
Juventus have been unreachable at the top of the Italian League table, and are yet to lose a match this season. However, Milan have not shared similar success, and are clawing their way back from a dreadful run that includes an exit from the Europa League at the hands of Greek side Olympiacos. Yet Milan have confidence in their ability to win this game, and have the advantage of unpredictability – will the team of lions appear, the same that defeated Roma at home earlier on in the season, or will the inconsistency creep out of the cracks in the AC Milan team? With a bit of luck, il Diavolo can bring home the trophy as it did in 2016 – defeating Juventus as underdogs.
