A.C. Milan star, Gianluigi Donnarumma, will not be extending his contract!
Terrible news from Casa Milan, as many sources, such as Sky, report that AC Milan’s young star goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, will not be extending his contract with the Rossoneri. This came as a shock to all Milan fans, despite the recent hesitance of Raiola, due to Gigio’s well known public love of the club.
In a recent interview with GQ, Donnarumma stated: “I am looking for a big apartment in Milan for me and my loved ones; I feel ready”. This reassured fans that he would remain at the club, but this news shocked us all.
Initial reports suggested that the offer was €5Million per year, but Raiola wanted to add a clause, stating that he could leave if Milan failed to qualify for the next year’s UEFA Champion’s league.
On many occasions this year, Donnarumma kissed the Milan badge. He often stated his love for the club, but recently the 18 year old fell quiet. His only statements were vague answers, saying that his agent will take care of him.
Raiola is notorious for his greed and money-driven attitude, and if you ask me, an agent like this is not right for a player who is passionate about their club. Mino Raiola is also the agent of current AC Milan players Giacomo Bonaventura and Ignazio Abate.
Donnarumma made 38 appearances in Serie A this year, playing every minute of every game. He rose to the scene last year, after replacing Diego Lopez in his debut vs. Sassuolo, and has never looked back since then. The teenager’s immense talent attracted interest from many top European clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona and PSG. But any attempt to sign the youngster was quickly rejected by the Milan board, as he was a crucial building block for Milan’s project.
Donnarumma was loved by all Milan fans, for his talent, passion and will to play for the Red & Black jersey. He has made 72 official appearances for Milan so far, and it looks like his last one was the 2-1 loss at Cagliari.
Donnarumma was a crucial part of both the seasons he played in Milan, with mutual agreement between fans, rivals and neutrals, that we would have finished much lower than 6th place if it wasn’t for him. He, like all humans, however did make a few mistakes. But these were forgiven by Milan fans, because he was still young and learning.
Donnarumma’s current contract expires in 2018, meaning he can leave for a fee this summer or for free next year.
As for his replacement, names like Pepe Reina were mentioned, but most fans disliked this option. A good option would be Milan’s current reserve goalkeeper, Alessandro Plizzari, who shone at the U20 world cup, stopping 2 penalties.
It is safe to say that all Milanisti are completely shocked about this news. It is absolutely disgusting that an 18-year old rejects a €5 million offer from the club he loves. We can guarantee that he will not get half the love he got from us Milan fans wherever he goes next. I don’t think he understood how much he was valued at this club. But you don’t know what you’ve got till its gone… Farewell Donnarumma
