For Milan’s third and final International Champions Cup preseason match, we see ourselves lining up against non-other than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United.
This is Milan’s second year in a row facing the Reds in the ICC competition, and what a thrilling ending to the match it was last year. Where the score finished at 1-1 in regulation, resulting in a penalty shootout with Man U coming out on top 9-8 with both goalkeepers having to step up to the penalty spot.
We hope for another exciting match this go around; just as Milan hopes to get on the score sheet for the first time in the competition so far, despite playing some stellar defense.
The difference within Milans style of play from Gattuso to Giampaolo has been more than noticeable. Although Giampaolo has yet to win with Milan in the ICC tournament, our style of play and pitch form look well under control.
But Milan have their work cut out for them, as United has had an excellent preseason so far and has won every game, including a 1-0 triumph over our rivals Inter Milan.
Manager Gunnar Solskjaer has already gotten some impressive performances out of summer signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka; the right back has looked in his element so far in a Reds shirt and surely plans on continuing his impressive form.
Also a threat so far in preseason is midfielder Juan Mata, who has always been a player any manager can’t afford to leave out of the defensive game plan.
Given that both official and predicted line-ups for the match have yet to emerge, I’ve decided to provide my own predictions. Including substitutions marked by a slash, my guesses for the line-ups of both teams follows:
Milan: Donnarumma/Reina, Calabria/Conti, Musacchio, Romagnoli/Caldara, Laxalt/Strinic, Kessie, Krunic/Bennacer, Paqueta/Calhonoglu, Piatek, Maldini.
Man United: De Gea/Romero, Wan-Bisakka, Tuanzebe/Lindelof, Smalling/Fosu-Mensah, Young/Shaw, Daniel James, Lingard/Greenwood, Juan Mata, Martial, Sanchez, Rashford/Lukaku.
The match will be kicking off in Cardiff at 17:30 BST, 12:30 Eastern US.
