Lovren getting CLOSER to Milan

Lovren has tumbled down the pecking order at Anfield but is still highly valued by the European champions.

The Croatian made just 17 appearances for the Reds last season on their march to Champions League glory and Premier League near-miss.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez started the campaign as Jurgen Klopp’s go-to centre-backs before Joel Matip nailed down a spot for the end-of-season run-in.

It left Lovren looking on from the bench for large periods, but it appears Liverpool don’t think that should affect his value.

AC Milan have been linked with a raid on the Anfield club for the 29-year-old.

But The Times reporter Paul Joyce claims Liverpool will demand a mega £25m for the defender.

It’s said Milan have yet to contact the Reds about a deal, but their incoming director of football Ricky Massara is a fan.

Lovren was scorned last year for claiming he was one of the world’s best defenders after playing in the Champions League final for Liverpool against Real Madrid and starring for Croatia in their run to the World Cup final.

And he then followed up that claim, by insisting he is among the best in the game.

When asked who the best defenders are, he said: “Virgil (van Dijk), I would say.

“We had a great season, last season, me and him. We reached the final of the Champions League.
