Match Time: Sunday 2:30 P.M. Eastern US, 8:30 P.M. (Italy time). GMT + 1
Match Location: Stadio San Siro, Milan, Italy.
It’s derby time Rossoneri! Our beloved Milan will face Inter in a match valid for the 28th leg of Serie A. The two teams are separated by a single point in the standings, that’s why the last edition of the Derby della Madonnina could see a very important role in the battle for a place in the Champions League.
AC Milan is in third place imagines its chances, arriving here after five consecutive league victories, in which it has only suffered two goals in total. Despite the positive results our team had problems against other teams in the top four places in SA, in fact Milan has no wins in all four league games against the top four in the standings (1 draw, 3 defeats), and they failed to score at all in three of those games.
Meanwhile, Rino Gattuso spoke on the prederby conference:
- About the Derby: “Every derby stands out on its own, we have to play wisely and also respect our opponents. I want my boys, my team, to play an intelligent game, with great passion and determination, we need to be courageous. We have to respect Inter because they have great players in their squad. I don’t know if it’s the most important game for us but I think we play against a beatable team but they can hurt us as well”.
- About the derby feeling: “We have to play as a team and we need all hands on deck. This is a heartfelt derby, you can feel it in the air. In my football days I felt it a lot and mostly alone and it upset me back then when someone would tease me. I wanted to prepare for it on my way, in silence and professionalism. The 75.000 fans will be an added value and the crowd must be our 12th man on the pitch”.
- About the objective: “We should focus on the UCL spot, our final position in the league table does not matter to me. Napoli have a good margin, they are a strong team. We should keep our heads down”.
- About Piątek: “We do not speak much, he prefers actions on the pitch. I am beginning to see him smile more often, at the beginning I thought he was upset with me. He is dedicated and likes to train, he knows what needs to be done.”
Additionally, Milan will not change their usual 4-3-3 lineup, even if Lucas Biglia scored against Chievo in the last game, Gennaro Gattuso will probably pick the XI that worked best for Milan in this positive streak. So Bakayoko will feature in the midfield alongside Paquetà and Kessiè, attack with Suso, Piątek (all eyes on our gunslinger), Hakan, and the usual defense with Calabria, Musacchio, Romagnoli, Rodriguez and Gigio protecting the goal.
In the other side, Inter’s rival citizens are in poor condition and are likely to slip out of the top four positions in Serie A. They only managed to win three of their last eight league games (3 wins, 2 draws, 3 defeats) and were eliminated from the Europa League in the midweek round. Despite the problems, Inter have not been defeated in the derby in the last five direct matches of Serie A (2 wins, 3 draws). In particular, three of the last derbies have seen four or more goals total.
However, we wil need to keep an eye on Lautaro Martinez and Matteo Politano, they are fast and score goals, so our defense will have to be cautious on these two. Radja Nainggolan and Mauro Icardi are still out of action, good for us, Asamoah will start as he rested for the Europa League match.
Finally, this is a crucial match where a win will give an important mental boost to our guys and will also give more security if we want to reach the UCL spot. We must respect our opponent and taking advantage of those 75.000 rossoneri that will be in San Siro to support the guys! I hope our team will give us a great performance, and bring us a victory on this decisive derby!
Forza Diavolo Rossonero!
INTER (4-3-3): Handanovič; D’Ambrosio, De Vrij, Škriniar, Asamoah; Gagliardini, Brozović, Vecino; Politano, Lautaro Martinez, Perišić. Coach: Spalletti.
