Who are AC Milan interested in? – January 2019

442

The start of 2019 brings the January transfer window, where teams look to strengthen their team heading into the second half of the season. AC Milan have been interested in a few players in different positions, from Italy and abroad. Leonardo has his work cut out for him, as he has to find a way to sign quality players without worsening Milan’s position with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play.

Yannick Ferreira Carrasco

Yannick Ferreira Carrasco is a 25 year-old Belgian winger currently playing his trade for Dalian Yifang in the Chinese Super League. He started his career at Monaco where his great performances were quickly noticed by Europe’s elite. In 2015, he was signed by Atlético Madrid for €20m.

Despite some solid performances at the Vicente Calderon, he decided to part ways with the Spanish club, and with his teammate Nicolás Gaitán, left for China. Since arriving in China, it’s been clear he is way too good for the Chinese league. Multiple media outlets have reported that after less than 30 games, he is bored of Chinese football and wants a return to Europe. His high wage of around €10.5m a season proves a tough obstacle for Milan to get past, and he will need to lower his demands for the Rossoneri to start negotiating with Dalian Yifang. His wife came out and said that he “received offers from Germany, Spain, England and Italy but nothing has been signed.” Arsenal and Manchester United also appear to be interested in bringing the Belgian international back to Europe.

Sandro Tonali

18 year-old Sandro Tonali has been making waves in Italian football after his great start to the season in the heart of midfield at second-tier side Brescia. In November of this year, Roberto Mancini called up Tonali to the senior national football team, and only still a teenager, has lots of talent and is destined to appear in the Serie A soon.

Price: €25m

Stefano Sensi

Sassuolo’s star man Stefano Sensi has been attracting interest from all around Europe after his stellar performances for Sassuolo this year. The central-midfielder is seen as an alternative to Tonali, and has looked very good this season, outshining former AC Milan player Manuel Locatelli in the Neroverdi lineup. Due to the hype around him, it would be tough to convince Sassuolo to part ways with their star.

Maxwel Cornet

Lyon winger Maxwel Cornet is attracting interest from Watford in the Premier League and from teams in the Serie A. The Ivory Coast international has played over 100 games for the French side since his move from Metz in 2015. He has scored 20 goals in this period but has been pushed out of the starting line up by the attacking duo of Memphis Depay and Bakaye Traoré. Cornet is very versatile, as he can play as a winger on both flanks and as a striker.
